
Building a Heater That Actually Works in a Bathroom
Most indoor heaters just give up the moment things get damp. It’s a huge pain. That’s why we built our infrared heaters with an IPX5 rating. In plain English? You can hit them with water jets from pretty much any angle, and they won’t quit. This makes them perfect for bathrooms or those semi-outdoor patios where the weather likes to surprise you. And the best part? That “instant spring” feeling. You tap a button on your phone, and you feel the heat immediately. No waiting around.
Why it feels instant
Here is the secret: we aren’t trying to warm up the air. That takes forever. Instead, we use shortwave infrared technology—basically a tungsten filament inside a quartz envelope—that sends heat directly to you. When you trigger it through your smart home setup, the filament hits its peak temperature in milliseconds. It’s fast. Really fast. You don’t get that annoying warm-up lag; you just get warm.
Making it “Smart”
We hook these up using Zigbee or Wi-Fi relays so you can fire them up with one click or set a schedule so the bathroom is cozy before you even wake up. One heads-up on the technical side: we use heavy-duty relays because the initial surge of power when the element kicks in is no joke. If you’re installing a bunch of these in one big area, just double-check your circuit breaker. You don’t want to trip the power the second everyone wants to get warm.
The waterproof stuff (and the warnings)
To get that IPX5 rating, we reinforced the seals around the chassis and used cabling that doesn’t mind a bit of moisture. We made sure there are no gaps where condensation can pool and fry the electronics. But let’s be real about the limits. This isn’t a submarine. It handles water jets, but you can’t dunk it in a pool. Also, keep in mind that if you put these in a steamy room, the outside of the unit is still going to get hot. Give it some breathing room. Keep it away from curtains or anything that could catch fire. It puts out a lot of heat in a small space, so don’t crowd it.
